Notes: Historically, St. Nicholas was a 4th century bishop whose feast day is now celebrated on December 6th, the traditional Old World date for passing out sweets & goodies in honor of the Christmas season. Today he has become fat & jolly Santa Claus, but in Northern Europe he is still skinny St. Nicholas, shown here with his bishop's staff and a donkey burdened with gifts to deliver to children on his feast day.
